DR LISA SHAVERIN

Chartered Clinical Psychologist

I am a clinical psychologist and have experience working with adolescents, adults and families. I have developed expertise working with people who have experienced trauma often early on in life and who may struggle with their sense of self, with managing intense emotions and who have difficulties in their relationships with others. I see people who have developed creative ways to cope with their emotional experiences including self-harming, dissociation and eating disorders. I have a particular interest in supporting adolescents and young people negotiate the transition into adulthood.

I am passionate about empowering the people I work with to develop and rediscover their own resourcefulness, creativity and strengths. My approach to therapy is collaborative, compassionate and curious. I believe strongly in the value and importance of developing a trusting relationship in therapy through which you can explore how you understand yourself and your relationships.

PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

I have worked within the NHS and charity sector for 15 years and currently work as a Senior Psychologist and the Clinical Team Manager in the specialist Complex Trauma Psychotherapy service at the Tavistock Clinic. I have a particular interest in working with people who have experienced complex trauma, including how this can impact on parenting and families and also support the work of the Ourtime Foundation, co-facilitating multi-family Kidstime workshops for families where a parent has a mental health difficulties. During the Covid-19 pandemic I worked in a voluntary capacity with Frontline19, offering therapy to frontline NHS and Social Care staff who may have been struggling with pandemic working but may themselves have their own experiences of trauma or mental health difficulties.

I have a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Hertfordshire, and a Post Graduate Certificate in Psychoanalytic Approaches to working with Adolescents (PG Cert, Tavistock & Portman). I am accredited as a Systemic Practitioner with the Association of Family Therapy (PG Cert, Institute of Family Therapy) and as a Mentalisation Based Therapist with the British Psychoanalytic Council. I am an MBT-A (mentalization based treatment with adolescents) practitioner, supervisor and trainer with the Anna Freud Centre. I have also completed training in a range of different therapy approaches including in Mindfulness, Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) and Eye Movement Desensitisation Therapy (EMDR) and I am currently training in Intensive Short Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP). This allows me to work integratively drawing on different therapy models and approaches.

In addition to my clinical work, I also offer supervision, training and consultation for individuals and organisations.
